- July 8 to October 3, 2026 brought no new clean list or startup program at four large retailers
- Sephora took 2026 Accelerate entries March 2 through March 31 for early-stage prestige labels
- 41 labels have finished Accelerate, and Sephora reports over half later stocked its shelves
For a buyer who turns a jar to read the Supplement Facts panel and the lot number, the shelf offered little new this summer. No revised clean standard, incubator group or independent brand program at Sephora, Ulta, Credo or Target was reported between July 8 and October 3, 2026. The latest relevant retail action remains Sephora opening entry for its 2026 Accelerate Program on March 2, 2026.
That date carries weight because Accelerate is often the place where a small plant-based skin care line first learns to meet prestige retail rules. Sephora presents it as a United States led incubator for prestige beauty labels in early phases and not yet broadly sold. Entry for the 2026 cycle ended March 31. Finalists were expected to be named in summer, with no dated announcement given. Every applicant must be 18 or older and hold a company incorporated in North America with origin on record.
The count so far is specific. To date 41 labels across makeup, skincare, hair care and fragrance have completed Sephora Accelerate with origins documented. Sephora reports that more than half of Accelerate graduates have started selling with Sephora to date by its sourcing record. For a founder who can name a grower and show a certificate of analysis, that move from small harvest idea to every-door supply is the patient chain Seed to Capsule traces lot by lot. Sourcing decisions taken early tend to hold, or break, at retail volume.
Recent graduates show what that scale looks like. EADEM grew to every Sephora store and its Le Chouchou lip balm entered the Sephora top 10 lip moisturizers for 2025. Kulfi is reported as now a full store brand with a top 3 lip stain. Topicals, an alum of the 2021 Accelerate cohort, held one of Sephora top selling eye masks last year. The 7 Virtues entered Accelerate and then started selling with Sephora in 2018. The 2026 Sephora Beauty Grant winner is MAED, per the Sephora newsroom post.
Since its launch a decade ago as the first prestige retail incubator for female founders, Sephora Accelerate has lifted new and often underrepresented outlooks and voices in beauty. That account came from the Sephora Newsroom.
The broader clean picture also held still in the window. Ulta Beauty says each brand certified for Clean Ingredients meets its Made Without List for inputs like parabens and phthalates. Ulta Conscious Beauty holds five pillars named Clean Ingredients, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable Packaging and Positive Impact. The Credo Clean Standard asks brands to check against a 2700 item dirty list from aluminum to talc.
What to follow from shelf back to source next is assortment rather than standards. Who entered the 2026 Sephora Accelerate cohort, and if indie skincare labels were among them, was not stated. The joint Know Better, Do Better ingredient report, which reviewed 318000 ingredient listings in over 8500 products, came out Oct 22 with no year shown, so it cannot sit in the summer span.
For now, the habit remains unchanged: read the label, check the test seal, buy with care, and wait to learn which young brands take hold.
